Andrea Snow is an art major who is preparing to receive her Associate's degree from RLC, followed by her Bachelor's from SIU-C, and hopes to eventually attain a Doctorate. She lives in the southern region of Illinois, works in a reference library, and hopes to someday become a professor of Illustration and Art History, while still indulging in her love for personal art. She spends most of her time harassing the Liberal Arts Department, watching movies & films, frivolously spending money, getting her nerd on, and reading.

This is her sketchblog, and you can also find her on Twitter.

July 2, 2009 12:59 AM      I'm still alive.

Hoping to finish this piece soon. You can see Maelstrom, my deer fetus, in the jar toward the bottom center of the photo.

At least two new pieces (and progress photos) will be moved to the artwork section this weekend.

Oh, art blog, I feel as if I'm neglecting you. Bigger updates... someday. Meanwhile, this piece is for sale. It's 18x24" and matted. $200 or best offer.

June 17, 2009 11:15 AM      Textual update.

I've been beginning some art and not having much time to finish it (see below -- I'd been hoping to have that piece done within three days, but it must wait until the weekend), and stewing over some ideas. Hopefully, I'll be able to accomplish something portfolio-worthy by the end of June.

I am selling my Illustration I project for the Seven Deadly Sins (covering Lust/Greed -- here is an exceptionally low-quality photograph of it), as its original buyer never paid, and contemplating whether or not I should rid myself of this original or this one, or a piece I've not yet completed (from May) after I'm able to work on it.

I currently have a commission slot open.
Details: a maximum size of 18x24", watercolor/mixed media piece. $45 base minimum; price varies depending on size, detail, etc. Band/gig posters have a base minimum of $60, plus the price of prints needed to be produced (if necessary at all). Contact me via email (pwndrea @ gmail.com) if interested, or for the number to my partially-functional cellular device.

Commission slot filled.

This place needs a new layout and better organization, and I think that Lobb is going to have me paint a door for him.

June 13, 2009 3:23 PM      Long time no see.

Some sketches from trips to Austin, TX and Grand Rapids, MI, as well as one from a few hours before seeing The Decemberists. More here: 1, 2, 3.

Art party in Austin went very well. Texas is beautiful, and friends and I are planning to return in October to see Daniel Johnston speak/play, if all goes according to plan.

Have decided against going to KCAD in Michigan for various, personal reasons. I am currently working on getting things together to attend a university that is closer to home, and excited about my living situation.

Further pieces-in-the-making may be photographed sometime next week. Summer classes are a bit difficult (mathematics and science courses are my downfall), but I am still working a little bit. I will have two pieces for sale within the next few days, if you're interested.

Signing Off.

May 20, 2009 12:51 PM      No updates for a few days.

I'll be in Austin with the majestic Rob and wonderful Michael Bell. I'll try to have some decent photos from the show/Texas and get some sketching done. I'm full of ideas but am not so sure if I'll maintain the motivation to execute them.

My portfolio review for KCAD is on June 9th. I'm really nervous about it (and becoming apprehensive about school/art/life in general at the moment -- my ever-so-minute flare of competetiveness died long ago -- and I think that I need to call Melissa for a pep talk soon). Any friends who would like to make the trip with me are welcome to join.

In the meantime, I must direct you to this blog entry by Miriam Rouziek, one of my favorite bloggers.

So, sometimes, I just kind of sit around at work.

My 7th/8th grade photography teacher came on-campus today.

Diptych (each measures 4x6"). Watercolor, India ink, acrylic, archival pen. This piece is going with me to Austin, TX on Thursday and will be shown at The Labyrinth on Friday night.

Here's a snapshot of some detail from another painting that will be going to Texas: a school project from earlier in the semester, entitled "Snow White." I'm venturing to a Kinko's or Staples tomorrow in order to find a scanner big enough for it.

I have enough teenage angst pent up to produce a cornucopia of paintings this summer. Watch me not use a lick of it. :|

May 14, 2009 3:03 PM      AG Redesign.
ag_redes_small.jpg

From a project I've been working on/mulling over in secrecy for the past couple of years. This is her second suit, after a conflict between her and another formerly major character results in the destruction of most her her first. It's much more industrialized and has a mask (great, cheesy dialogue accompanies introduction of said mask), and a few other differences. Her limbs are supposed to be long, and her hips very big... but, I think that I went a bit overboard in emphasizing that in this sketch. They're not normally quite so... massive.

The other character gets a handprint burned over his chest.

I was skimming through some old sketchbooks a few days ago and really liked a few of the doodles relevant to this story, so I might scan and upload a few things from some years back.

Added some things to the portfolio box, including my Short Stories assignment.

Completed. Now I just have to finish the comic book for my Short Stories class (I only have a few pages sketched out). It's due on Tuesday morning, so I'll be working on it a lot tonight, and hopefully be able to add the finishing touches on it tomorrow night.

I have close-up shots/scans of the cards, as well as another finished piece to add to the portfolio section (along with "Scary, Inky Bitches") once finals are over with.
